Ready For Training Camp And A Big Year
We are ready to enter training camp and I am extremely excited about the year ahead for the New York Jets. I went into the offseason looking to get a little bit bigger, a little bit stronger and a little bit faster and I accomplished that.
The second goal I had was to take my understanding of the defensive scheme here to a new level. All through the OTAs and the offseason workouts, things just came more naturally and with a great deal more comfort.
It is like night and day for me now. It was a lot to learn last year and some of it felt unnatural for me to move into a new spot. I feel great about the defense and my role and my reads are far more advanced.
We are a team that has a bull's-eye on it this year and that is a good thing. We can't fly under the radar this season. We have a great group of guys who are extremely competitive, who are going to rise to the challenge.
First, though, we have to get through training camp. It is not an easy time and no matter what anybody says, it is definitely not fun. It is a lot of hard work. It's a grind, as much of a mental grind as it is a physical grind. It lasts for five or six weeks and we work from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day including meetings and study times.
Playing on Sunday is the reward for making it through training camp. Camp is necessary and the work is important. The ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl. I keep that in mind and that helps me get through camp.
I feel that we are a team capable of doing great things. We have a good team on paper, but you never know what is going to happen. You have to be ready for anything to happen.
I will update My Words every week or so, so I thank you for your interest in me. Please feel free to ask me a question. I want to take as much time as possible to answer questions and get to know my fans.
