An Update And My Super Bowl Favorites
My rehab is going well. I'm still on crutches and will be for two more weeks. After that, I'll be able to walk and increase what I can do. So far, though, it's been good. I pretty much have a full range of motion; that is something that I work on every day, and I'm regaining my strength.
This is just a situation where I have to keep working diligently and remain patient, take things one day at a time. It hasn't been a painful thing physically; the hard part is the frustration I deal with because I want to be out there with the guys. It's tough watching the team play and not having the chance to help.
As for the team, I know how tough it is for them. The season hasn't gone the way we wanted it to go. I see a team that makes too many mistakes. We've been close to winning games, and this kind of season reminds you how tough it is to win in this league.
It is going to be an important off-season. I know everybody is going to be looking forward to next season, to getting things right.
When a player is sidelined, there are two definitions you have to understand. Being hurt requires getting treatment and trying to get back on the field the next week. Everybody is hurt in the NFL after the first week of the season.
When you get put on Injured Reserve, it is a whole different deal. You either go back home and rehab at home or you stay with the team and rehab. Whatever works for the player the best is how he approaches the situation. I've been in Miami since my surgery because the doctors told me they don't want me to fly because my knee will swell up too much.
So I'm in Florida working to get better, feeling distanced from the team but trying to stay in touch the best I can. I've seen some of the young players, particularly David Harris and Darrelle Revis playing well and adjusting well to the NFL.
It's almost playoff time in the league and I'm a fan, just like everybody else. In the AFC, I have to go with the Patriots as the favorite. I think there are some quality teams like Indianapolis, Jacksonville and San Diego, but I think New England is the best team in the conference. I would be surprised if New England doesn't reach the Super Bowl.
In the NFC, it's a little bit more wide open. Green Bay and Dallas are the best of that group, along with Seattle, but I would have to give the nod to the Cowboys at this point. That could change, but Dallas has a lot of weapons. They just lost to Philadelphia, which might get Dallas on track and prepare them for their playoff run.
