Life after the Super Bowl
The past month has been a crazy and exciting time for me, my family, and all of the Saints players. I have finally had a chance to settle down and think about our incredible journey to a Super Bowl win. It is truly incredible what a team can do when it puts forth a unified and passionate effort. The Super Bowl victory was a dream come true, something that I have wanted to do since I was a little kid. We reached the goal that we set in the beginning of the year: to be Super Bowl Champions!!
Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me after the Super Bowl. I am very grateful to have such a strong support network around me. I also appreciate all of the requests to assist in the Haitian relief efforts. The area is still devastated after the earthquake, but aid has been coming into the area and helping out the survivors. The worldwide effort and support has been incredible. Thanks to everyone out there who bought a t-shirt, made a donation to a charity, or said prayers for the victims and survivors.
The Super Bowl game itself was such an incredible emotional trip that it is hard to describe. Our defense played really well to control Peyton Manning and the Colts’ offense. Their passing game was consistent, but we were definitely able to limit the big plays. We made a few key stops and forced crucial turnovers. The interception return for a TD basically sealed the win for us and was the key turning point in an unbelievable Super Bowl. I am really proud of all our guys on defense, special teams, and offense because it was a true team effort to come away with this win on the big stage. I am very thankful to be a part of this team and have the opportunity to play in the biggest game of my career. I am very happy with my effort throughout the game. We played strong throughout the game, but our hard work really showed in the second half. It was a great season in many ways, but the Super Bowl means so much to the city of New Orleans and the Saints’ fans. We brought the trophy back home to New Orleans!!!
My schedule has been crazy since the Super Bowl. I have been on many programs and shows, conducted numerous interviews, participated in all the parades and Mardi Gras celebrations, and really enjoyed every moment of it. I have been soaking it all in and enjoying the satisfying feeling of being Super Bowl Champs. The first few weeks after the Super Bowl were surreal, but the victory is starting to sink in as I have some down time to relax and think about the crazy ride.
I am enjoying some relaxation time with my family and friends now, which is very important. My family from Haiti has come up to the US to get out of the rough situation in Haiti. I have been working with many relief organizations and groups to figure out my best action plan for the offseason. I have been interviewing and meeting with many relief groups to see who I can partner with. I want to visit Haiti and make a contribution to the relief efforts, but I want to make sure I have a successful action plan in place before I journey down there. I believe my best efforts will come over the course of time with some planning. The region is still suffering from the devastation and destruction caused by the earthquake, so you can still make a difference through donations and support.
My goals for this offseason include: staying strong and prepared to get back to work once training camp and practices start, recovering from a very enjoyable and exhausting season, looking forward to next year to refocus my attention on a new year, helping out the Haiti relief efforts in every way I can, and enjoying the fact that we are Super Bowl Champs!! I will keep this journal section updated about every 2 weeks during the offseason, so check back for updates and new stories!
