Q) JV, Did you go to West Lab Elem. school? And if so do you remember any of your freinds from those days?

 --Justin Kaylor, Cashiers, NC

A) Wow. How did you know that? Write back and tell me, please. I did go to West Lab Elementary school. My best friend from kindergarten to second grade was Roger Pollard. That's funny that you know that!

Q) How early did you develop good eating habits and what recommendations would you make for a high school player?

 --cjjs@comcast.net

A) "When I was very young, my parents always cooked for me and so they started me off right. The food was actually good, too. So I had no problems eating right, eating good, home-cooked food. I didn't eat much fast food. I went into middle school and high school not caring much for McDonald's and Burger King food. Every now and then I ate it, but I generally ate healthy and enjoyed home-cooked meals.

"For a high school player, I would say for you to stay away from sodas, because they affect your performance. Don't drink iced tea, coffee -- all of that affects their performance. If you are a heavier person, don't eat late. Try to lose weight. Cut out the midnight snacks.

"If you are trying to gain weight, eat five meals a day. Not just five times a day, but five meals a day. It's healthy for you and it's good for you."

Q) What's the best thing about being in the New York Jets?

 --Zain Ahmad, Fresh Meadows, NY

A) "I like our team, the guys and the organization. I like the City here. I just like the direction of our team with Coach Mangini. We both want to win. We are both on the same page as far as that objective. We have a good relationship."

Q) How early do you like to show up to home games?

 --John Landi, Putnam Valley, NY

A) "I always wake up at 9 in the morning, no matter whether it's a 1 p.m. game or a 4 p.m. game. I like to eat a good breakfast, maybe a light snack if it's an early game, maybe a light lunch if it is a late game. I don't listen to music. I like to get to the stadium as late as possible because I like to get there, get dressed and play. That's really about it. I don't like to do too much before a game. I like to keep my mind free, keep it clear and then go out and play."

Q) Now being in the NFL who do you keep in touch the most with from The U? -Mark

 --Mark Ellenbogen, Cooper City, FL

A) "I stay in touch with D.J. Williams (current Denver Broncos linebacker) the most. He was my best friend coming out of Miami. We played linebacker together for four years in college and have been real close ever since. We actually lived in the same condo building down in Miami and we still talk at least once a week."

Q) Do you prefer a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense?

 --lorijenkins@msn.com

A) "Right now, I can't say which one I'd rather be in, because I haven't been in a 3-4 long enough to tell you. The approach is definitely different. In a 4-3, you work more sideline to sideline and you get used to playing that way. In a 3-4, you have more restrictions and more responsibilities inside. You have to learn to play your area, your gap. It's an adjustment that I'm still getting used to. The bottom line is that you have to make plays, no matter what system you are in on the field."

Q) How long does it take you to come down to normal after a game?

 --billsands@comcast.net

A) "It probably takes me not as long as you think, maybe 20 minutes. Maybe it's a little bit longer after a loss, but you have to understand that we have to meet the media after the game and we have to be professional. You learn how to control your emotions. What's done is done. You can't go back and change things, so that is how you learn to get your feelings in check after a game.

Q) How do you like the way new head coach Eric Mangini is running the team? - James

 --Jets_forever32it@msn.com

A) "You know, I like what Coach is doing with us. We're moving in the right direction. He is a no-nonsense head coach who is very clear on what he wants from us. He has a great vision and he's obviously had success. I respect that. He's a good leader. We've had our ups and downs so far this season, but we're getting better. We're all working to improve every day. That's what he asks of us. We're prepared to play every week."
