Q)
Hi Jon, I'm the fan that...bumped into you and a couple teammates last year at Benihana's (sorry again). Anyway, I'm living in Ohio (moving back to NY next year) and I haven't been able to see all the games this year. What do you think is the main reason for the team's drop off from last year? I thought the running game was going to be so much better. The Pete Kendall thing probably didn't help. I wish they would have given him what he wanted. What about the defense? I thought the run defense was going to be better too. What do you think needs to be done to improve? Anyway, take it easy and good luck rehabbing!

Brian, we are all disappointed with how the season has gone. I truly thought we were a playoff-caliber team. I can't honestly pinpoint one thing. It has been a series of things that have gone wrong. One game it is the offense and the next game it is the defense. We never got on a roll at all. We never were consistent from week to week.
I look forward to bouncing back, having a strong off-season and getting a lot better in 2008.

Q)
Hey JV
UMiami alum and NYJ fan here.
I hope you're doing well from your surgery.
What happened to Sean Taylor is just terrible, a senseless tragedy. How are you doing with this awful event, and what is your fondest memory of Sean?
Take care, Bro

I have so many fond memories of Sean. We were roommates at Miami and he was such a fun-loving guy. He was obviously an extraordinary football player. It is hard to pick out one moment. My heart is heavy. It is distressing that in our society you hear about this kind of thing too many times. I feel for Sean's family and his friends. This is an absolute tragedy.

Q)
What weight to you play at and is it hard to maintain your weight during a long season?
--hurricanerule@hotmail.com
|
| A)
I play at about 232, 233 pounds. It isn't really hard to maintain my weight. I eat right and I take care of my body. I'm used to the long grind now, so it isn't a problem for me at all.

Hey 51, We are flying out from the midwest to watch your D pound on the Giants and I want to locate a #51 hurricane jersey to wear to the game. I have looked at a few places any idea where to find one?

Paul, I don't quite know where you can find them. I believe there is a web site from the U that you can find my jerseys. Start there. I appreciate your support.

Q)
Hi Mr. Vilma. Well, first i'm happy to be in your website. Second, i am a brazilian guy, love the NY Jets, and here in Brazil the FOOTBALL have many fans, but the sport isn't knew it for my people. I have a team, and we practice every weekend, to be good enough. My question is, what we can do to put the football (american football) in level to others peoples to appreciated him?

I think it has to start with the kids to bring the level of play up. I would like to see the NFL have more camps for kids in different countries to educate the kids and show them how to play the game. The reason football isn't a passion there like it is here is because not enough people know how to play the game. They didn't learn the game as kids. I think that is where it needs to start.

Hi Jon. I was at practice this morning and yesterday. You are doing really well. I wish you much luck with your season. Just so you know I am one of your biggest fans...and not only because you are cute but you are a great football player. As a Phys Ed teacher I try to instill the importance of fitness to my students. Is there any advice you would give as a pro athlete that I could pass on to the kids?

I think it is important for kids of any age to find a sport they like and play. It doesn't matter what you do, just stay active and have fun. Fun is the biggest thing. Enjoy running around and don't make it too serious.

Q)
Hey Vilma! I just wanted to let you know that I am your biggest fan and that you are my favorite player of all-time, ever since I saw you laying people out in the national championship against Nebraska. I told everyone that you were the answer the Jets were looking for ever since that game. I even wore a Bryan Cox #51 jersey to the draft in 2004, but taped Vilma over the name Cox. Everyone at the garden made fun of me until your name was called at #12. This was one of the greatest days of my life. I played LB in college in a 3-4 and I know it can be frustrating not to roam free. Do you feel that you will be able to put up better statistics than your first 2 years and represent the Jets in the Pro Bowl? Also, do you hope to be a Jet for life? Best of Luck this year JV. We are behind you guys every game, every play.

I appreciate that very much. Man, you don't know how much that means to me. You are a great fan. I'm fine with the 3-4 now that I know more about it and understand where I am supposed to be. I feel more and more comfortable every day.
I do think I have a chance to put up big numbers and, sure, the Pro Bowl would be great. It takes a lot of hard work, though. I'm more concerned with winning games. That is really all that matters to me.
As for being a Jet for life, that was my plan coming into the NFL and it is something I would love to do.

Dear Jon,
I'm your hugest, super biggest fan. I rememember the days when I used to whip your butt in basketball and you'd try to get physical and charge me with that ugly left hand finger roll. The days of yesterday....awe what great times. Now you're successful and I admire your drive and determination. Your website is hot, you're hot and I'm glad to be one of your boys. Keep up the great work pimpin' and stay healthy this season. Tell Hollywood he shut down Moss this year with those stinkin' PATS!!!!

Hey, let's not talk about the old days here! Why don't you pick up the phone and give me a call instead of trying to reach me through my web site!
